"Titanic Brass" brings a wonderful blend of old and new music, featuring our own arrangement of the movie blockbuster soundtrack "Titanic", written for the band by our Musical Director, at the time, Mark Bentham.
Naturally, we couldn't have produced this recording without the sounds of our, then, Solo Horn player Billy Rushworth, he plays two solos for us showing the amazing versitility he has on the Tenor Horn. First, the technically challenging "Carnival of Venice" by Rod Steigers and secondly with the melodic sound of Penns "Smilin' Through".
The CD also features our 1st Baritone player, the late, Jon Tinker who sadly passed away in a tragic car accident in the summer of 2000. He is greatly missed by the band and his moving rendition of Leigh Bakers arrangement of Warrens "I Know Why" serves a fitting tribute to Jons musical prowess.
The Youth Band play an important part in the organisations life, and they bring us two pieces on the recording. Firstly, the Eb Bass solo "The Ploughboy" featuring Alexander Brierley and then the theme music from the film "The Battle of Brtiain" - "Aces High".
1999 saw the band's quartet awarded first prize at the National Open Quartet Championships and they bring us Gilbert Vinter's "Elegy and Rhondo".
We also bring many lighter pieces to the recording including Mark Benthams "Cartoon Symphony", comprising many of the theme tunes to well loved cartoon of the 80's and 90's.. Can you spot the Simpsons, Scooby Doo and The Jetsons to name but a few? "Lucerne Song", the trombone section particularly like this one as they get to show us their well rehearsed "Inibrioso" effects.
